Evidence of ‘Russian aggression’ in Stalin museum

Less than two months after the conflict in South Ossetia, the Georgian government is opening an exhibition of Russian aggression. Ironically, the exhibition will be housed in Gori in the museum of Stalin - a place dedicated to the former Soviet leader who hailed from the town and was himself accused of considerable aggression against his own people. The new exhibition is still empty but in December within its walls visitors will be able to experience the story of the Georgian war and for many it is a tragic one. Russia Today...

Hollywood legend Paul Newman dies at 83

Screen legend, superstar—and the man with the most famous blue eyes in movie history—Paul Newman began his career studying at New York’s famous Actor’s Studio. After his first Broadway appearance in 1953s Picnic he was offered a movie contract by Warner Brothers. Fortunately, that wasn’t the end of his career. Newman went on to become one of the top box office draws of the 1960s, starring in such superior films as The Hustler, The Prize, Hud, Cool Hand Luke and buddy movies Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting, both co-starring Robert Redford.France 24...

Abramovich’s girlfriend opens Moscow gallery

Darya Zhukova, the girlfriend of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, opened a new art gallery in Moscow on Tuesday. She hopes the Centre for Modern Culture, or 'Garage', will house the work of aspiring young Russian artists and rival London's Tate Modern or the New York MOMA. The vast 8,500 square metre exhibition space is a former bus garage, and an avant-garde masterpiece in its own right, which is mentioned in most Russian textbooks on architecture. Zhukova's decision to turn it into a gallery most likely saved the historic building from demolition. Russia Today...

Fresh delay for Acropolis Museum

The opening of a new, ultra-modern Acropolis museum located below the ancient Athens landmark has been pushed back until February or March next year, Culture Minister Michalis Liapis said Tuesday. "We had said the museum would open its doors towards the end of the year, but the inauguration will be delayed by two months or so," said Liapis after a visit to the building. A February or March opening was a more realistic goal, he added. France 24 Article...
